General information for people wanting to join a Redbridge Ramblers’ walk:

Walks listed in our programme are intended primarily for The Ramblers' members. Non-members are welcome to join us on two or three walks.

Only working guide dogs in harness are permitted on group walks.

For your own safety please follow advice and instructions of the leader. Every care is taken in planning walks, but we can accept no liability and participation is entirely at your own risk.

Walks not starting from stations include a 6-digit Ordnance Survey national grid reference number with a 3-digit "Explorer" map number prefix.

Most walks are in rural areas and people only used to walking on surfaced paths without obstacles may find them more demanding than they expect. If unsure of your fitness level, try a short and easy walk first: it's much better to find a walk a little too slow and easy than to make yourself miserable and exhausted. Please have suitable footwear and clothing and bring some food and drink. Leaders may refuse to accept anyone considered being inadequately equipped, unfit or unable to cope with distance and/or pace required.

A general indication to the level of difficulty is included in the description of each walk using the following guidelines:

Easy Access. Suitable for everyone, including people pushing conventional wheelchairs and pushchairs. Comfortable shoes or trainers can be worn. Assistance may be needed to push wheelchairs on some sections.

Easy. Suitable for anyone who is not seriously unfit and does not have mobility difficulties or health problems. These walks are suitable for pushchairs, if they can be lifted over occasional obstructions. Comfortable shoes or trainers can be worn.

Leisurely. Walks are suitable for reasonably fit people with at least a little country walking experience. May include unsurfaced rural paths. Walking boots and warm, waterproof clothing are recommended.

Moderate. Walks are suitable for people with country walking experience and a good level of fitness. May include some steep paths and open country. Walking boots and warm, waterproof clothing are essential.

Strenuous. Walks are suitable for experienced country walkers with an above average fitness level. May include hills and rough country. Walking boots and warm, waterproof clothing are essential.
